To cultivate the interest in astronomy and space science among the youth generation in Hong Kong as well as enhance their understanding about the development and achievements of space technology in China, Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce have organised the "Young Astronaut Training Camp" to select thirty local secondary school students to undergo astronaut training programme in Beijing and Jiuquan. The training camp is organised by the Hong Kong Space Museum and in association with the Beijing-Hong Kong Academic Exchange Centre.

Among 160 applicants, our student T. Y. Yip was selected honorary as one of the 30 participants in the Young Astronaut Training Camp after three-round selections. During the 8-day trip, he visited different places, like the National Astronomical Observatories, Chinese Academy of Sciences (NAOC), and the Xinglong Observatory, which broadened his horizon and saw different astronomical facilities. For instance, he saw the LAMOST in the Xinglong Observatory and learned about its working principle and a myriad of astronomical-related knowledge, like Miyun. The observatory is responsible for receiving the data from the satellite in the Chinese Lunar Exploration Project in the recent years. Visiting the Mars Camp at Lenghu is also an unforgettable experience. At Lenghu, the sky is very beautiful at night, and many stars can be observed.

Due to T.Y. Yip excellent and well-disciplined performance in the camp, he was finally awarded the great prize of the Best Camper Performance in the astronaut training camp.
